Banded sun

Almost didn't ride the bike this morning and then decided to chance my luck. Didn't get wet so felt good. Until Anna (my Director) talked to me about the problems in the inpatient unit. A really difficult clinical problem, and three of five consultants away from the unit; when it was full at the start of the day. So: "I want you to spend the day there".

A change from the previous instruction to not use my clinical time to fill the gaps! That has resulted in me doing Planned Acute Care on Tuesdays (from tomorrow) and Maternal Mental Health on Wednesdays. With today being Acute Inpatient Ward, my 30% clinical has become 75% for this week (three days out of four, as this is my non-Friday week). Ah well, when was this job about rationality?

I enjoyed the day. Frustration over some things, satisfaction with most. There was a need for decisions to be made and by example it was possible to create an environment where staff felt they could do things, and then did them. Didn't set foot outside the unit after arriving there, until I left for home.

Got home long enough before sunset to get set up on the deck with my camera and a glass of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. And record the last minute of the sunlight before the earth's rotation took it away for 14 hours.
