Sanctuary

This pond beyond the top of our hill has been a swimming hole for Kirby for years. It's also been a wildlife sanctuary in this sometimes barren farmland. We've seen wood ducks, mallards, blackbirds, and myriad other species inhabit this small oasis in a wasteland of farming pesticides and herbicides. Now, our neighbors have removed the hardwood trees and brush from its shores, and we fear their complete removal and drainage of the pond. The farming practices here are bitter bread to swallow, and ultimately may drive us away from the valley home we love. Let's hope they are going to improve the pond.
