57 Thomas Street

All three of the teenage kids seem to be growing ALL THE TIME so we offered them each some money and the prospect of a day's clothes shopping at the outlet in Gretna Green. Dan was grateful but uninterested - he buys almost all his clothes from charity shops - but the girls were most definitely up for it.

We subsequently revised our destination to Cheshire Oaks but, having reviewed the list of shops, the girls made a last minute request for Manchester, and so it was that we drove in, this morning, enjoying the wonderful sunshine.

The girls shot off as soon as we arrived and the Minx wanted to shop for sandals, so I took myself off into the Northern Quarter. It's over five years since the Minx first brought me here and it's still my favourite part of Manchester. It was looking great, today, with chairs and tables outside all of the bars and restaurants.

I settled on 57, Thomas Street, which was the first bar that we visited all those years ago. I sat out on the street with my book and a beer (see extra photo), reading until Hannah came to join me. It was blissful sitting out in the sun.

Eventually, though, we moved back inside, now joined by the Minx and Charlie. In some ways, this was even more pleasant, sitting in the cool bar, looking out at sunny Manchester. Now there are two words you don't often see together :-)
