Sandy Aftermath

This is a picture of an area of the Potomac river, just before it enters Washington, called Great Falls. It's usually spectacular in and of itself, but today it was at its highest flow, thanks to the passage of hurricane Sandy. The speed and volume of the water, along with its roar renewed my sense of respect for the strength of mother nature :)

The park just reopened to the public today (it was closed during the hurricane) and even on a drab, grey day with complete flat light, the river was something to behold. It's a dangerous part of the river under any circumstances, with plenty of warnings posted not to wade into the water, and I can't imagine what it would be like to be caught in those white waters...

This gave me a chance to practice both freezing action and showing flow.More pictures here.
