Impressionistic shtick

When the engraver emerged, blinking, into the light, his eyes were still affected and the hard-edged world was now softened so that it resembled one of M. Monet’s paintings. For the first time, he wondered whether he might not be able to reproduce the Impressionists’ images after all.
