Eye to Eye

Spooky, favourite tree.

The oldest, and probably most hugged, tree in the canton of Vaud is a horse chestnut and it is on the roadside just behind our house. It is estimated to be at least 500 years old but, as another tree is growing into the middle of the trunk, its age cannot be accurately estimated. The shape is appearing more and more as it drops its leaves. It could be a late Halloween figure, rather spooky seen from under the shining lime tree leaves that have not even turned yet! I posted some detail of its trunk earlier in the year. Here it is in all its "gnarliness" - new word, old tree.
Press L to see how large and lumpy the trunk is.
