She's happy..

to be here and so are we that she is!

She's looking a bit windswept like the rest of us! Very blowy today but fine with a hazy sun.

They arrived at just after 6.00 pm and Eda has smiled all through her tea and bath and is now asleep whilst we eat raspberries and chocolate cake!

We took my favourite road into Lochinver this morning, lined with wild primroses and there are always sightings of deer. It's very narrow and quite scary but thankfully I'm not driving!

We headed to Clachtoll beach for a short walk that took in the lovely beaches, a fisherman's bothy and an Iron Age Broch.
In the bothy were displays of fishermen during the 20th century, the net drying poles were still out side, but also a display of the Rev. Norman Macleod who was born here and left with a good number of his community in the early 19th century to Nova Scotia. He trained for ministry whilst there and then set of for Australia and finally New Zealand setting up a community in Waipo, Northland. Over a period of 20/30 years 6 boat loads followed him. They were known as Normanites. There is a memorial to him above the beach and in Waipo.
We returned by Stoer beach which was hit by a meteorite 1.2 billion years ago, apparently evidence can still be seen on the rocks on the beach. We were amazed by the size of the beach boulders. Giant pebbles really that had been sculpted by rough seas into huge troughs.

A drive then to Stoer lighthouse which we can see from 'our' beach and of course we had great views back over Coigach.
We stopped for a pot of tea and a bacon sandwich from the van, £
6 for the two of us!

Back to Lochinver for renowned pies for tea and a quick look in the fortnightly market. Chris was happy as he got his dried/cured meats that weren't available from Elphin on Wednesday. Turns out it was closed because the water was left on over winter in the community centre and they had a burst pipe which wasn't discovered until 3 months later!

A bargain cup of coffee and home made cake for £5 for the two of us. A great day with family arriving at the end of it.
