Lewisias

These are Alpine plants from North Western USA. They are named after the famous explorer Meriwether Lewis who discovered them in 1806. Another name for them is Bitterroot.
They grow on the north western facing mountain slopes. In fact this is the State Flower of Montana.

They come in many colours and are quite easy to grow so long as you do not get standing water at the base of the leaves. I grow some outside but these two plants have been in the alpine house over winter.
