Minerve

I must have blipped this village half a dozen times over the years, and each time it’s different.

This time because we’ve never visited in the springtime. All of the Aude is filled with wildflowers, especially poppies but all sorts of colours abound in the fields and verges. The Gorge du Cesse is likewise alive and the heavy rains have filled the usually dry river beds.

There are fantastic walks in the water carved caves and beneath beautifully curving overhanging cliffs, but today there’s no way through without swimming, and the water is neither shallow nor slow moving...

The insect bites from the other day refused to quieten, and today my right hand looks like it comes from a far larger man. A brief foray into the village for antihistamines should soon resolve that.

I was almost tearfully moved to note that today is Europe Day!

The mainstream news is only now beginning to hint at all the things we are “voluntarily” planning to give up in the UK, like cross Europe health cover, mobile phone portability, access to major scientific projects we previously stood central within... Happy Europe Day! It may be our last.

Oh, and although my mother doesn’t read these journals, I thought the extra was amusing.
