Toothwort

Today we did the final part of our curlew survey. As before we didn't see any of our target birds but our route took us along a beautiful woodland path filled with bluebells, wild garlic and a great variety of wild flowers.

The blip is of Toothwort, a parasitic plant that lives on the roots of some trees especially hazel. It has no chlorophyll so is colourless and gets it's nutrition  from the host plant. There's also a young Jack in the Pulpit growing there, the first I've seen this year.
