Off to the movies
This afternoon we welcomed the members of the Government Inquiry into Mental Health. Then we senior clinical managers in the Mental Health Directorate talked with them about what is wrong and what we think are the solutions. Only an hour and a half, but I think we offered enough broad brush solutions that they might get something worthwhile from it.
Cycled back to the apartment where S was ending her yoga lesson, allowing me to sit on the deck with camera, a glass of cordial and soda water, and look at a post from son, Tsuken. He was expostulating about a news item from Australia where he is now (sadly for us) based, decrying the inadequate funding of specialist psychiatric services given the large number of young persons presenting with emotional distress and self harm. Rightly (in my opinion), he says that funding more psychiatry won't solve the social issues resulting in this distress and consequent behaviour. We tried to give the Inquiry that same message., while emphasising that they can't (in the short term) cut our funding to fund the other approach.
While I was reading Tsuken's post, I was watching the sky as the sun fell, and this was my last photo in the sequence. Then we were off to The Lido theatre to see a film; The Guernsey literary and potato peel pie society. A pleasing evening with book club friends, and then a shared meal afterwards.
