Bounty from Beyond
Beyond the false garden, eyes watch.
Sometimes a slight shadow moves.
We approach, cautiously, knowing
that Fleshfeather will open a hole,
a tunnel from the false garden
to our world of tree and sky,
into which it will throw
a scatter of suet and seed,
a sprinkle of mealworm.
Then, though the tunnel will close,
the eyes still see
and, as the boldest robin,
it will fall to me to call for more:
three short, shrill notes
will thrill the air and bring
Fleshfeather's further bounty.

It's been a fabulous, summery day. And is if to confirm it, I saw a holly blue butterfly, several orange tips and - while one swallow doesn't make a summer - I saw two!
Robin is training me to throw more food when the first handful has gone - I was very definitely summoned! I wrote the poem in bed this morning, but this photo I took in the evening sunlight. Another of those days when I could have posted half a dozen photos, but Robin won the day.
