Haunted House
This is Charlton House. It is allegedly haunted. Staff have found their belongings mysteriously moved, porters have heard the lift going up and down on its own and a grey lady carrying a bundle which looks like a baby has been seen by visitors walking in the grounds towards the walled garden. Some of the paranormal activity is belived to be caused by Sir William Langhorne, who bought the house and it's grounds in 1680 and married a 17-year-old bride from Charlton Village. Sir William Langhorne and his brother (who also lived in the mansion) were well-known womanisers and despite William's old age (he was 80 when he married) he was desperate to have a child to inherit the wealth he had built up as an East Indian merchant. He died in 1715, two months after the wedding, but before his wife had conceived. It is believed he still haunts the grounds in the hope of finding a fertile bride.
And yet I still went there tonight on Halloween to blip it. Serious addiction!!!
