Things to do...

...on Islay in the rain, part two.
Waulk Mill is a tweed mill originally dating from 1883 and restored in 1981.  Marcus, shown here, has worked at the mill weaving cloth since leaving school in 1986.  One of the workers here has designed a new tweed for the WW100 event taking place tomorrow, not on Saturday as I said in my blip on 28 April.  The Princess Royal is reportedly fond of Islay and has purchased items from this mill in the past.  As she is on the island right now for WW100, she may well nip in and buy a jacket or skirt.
The extra shows Islay Community Garden.  This was established in the 1700's to grow fruit and vegetables for Islay House.  It fell into disuse and was brought back to life by volunteers in 2005.  It is now run as a community project, gives training in horticulture to young people on the island, and supplies a number of local businesses as well as residents.
