There must be a story here

Several of my regular walks take me past Glossop Golf Course and the sign at the entrance but I normally only walk past looking at the wording.

Today I varied one of my walks and came across the back of the stone sign for the Golf Course for the first time.

It looks as though it must have been part of a larger original art work.

I wonder if it was an aborted work or was it cracked and ruined. I wonder if there is an interesting story here ?
