Jest Warszawa, po prostu jest!

Backblip

I am still jet lagged while backblipping and cannot really work out how come that some of my photos have wrong dates/hours (Adelaide time), but some are the right date. It is all too hard. I will just continue and try to get it more or less right for my own sake.

We arrived to Warsaw on 16 October when Poland was to play England (football/soccer, whatever you call it wherever you are). The weather was terrible, it was raining cats and dogs. We couldn't land at the planned airport and had to go to another one. At the same time somebody made a decision to open the roof of the National Stadium where the match was to take place. The stadium filled up with water. The match got cancelled. The Minister of Sport nearly lost her job for that. Facebook was full of hilarious pictures and comments about the National Swimming Pool. 3 Polish supporters run onto the green and had some harmless fun, but were chased by the security and later this week had to go to court where they were banned from any stadium for 2 years.

Today the weather was glorious. My sister planned a balloon flight, but after our hassle with landing I wasn't very keen on the idea. Instead we went to the top of Palace of Culture. It was eventful enough for us: we had to wait for ages for the lift in a loooong queue (very 1980's Poland), then Hanna managed to climb the metal crate protecting people from jumping from the 30th floor, which nearly gave me and my sister heart attacks. The rest of the day was just pleasant wandering around the town, having lunch, sightseeing and playing on the playground.

In the picture you can see, apart from the skewed horizon, great shops at Marszalkowska Street and far far at the back our famous or infamous National Stadium (or bucket). This is the eastern (slightly north-eastern) part of the city.
