Between fen and mountains

Lily of the valley

Today is a Bank holiday, the fête du travail and it is traditional to give friends, family and loved ones a bunch of muguet. The tradition goes back to the 16th century when Charles IX offered a sprig to all the ladies of the court. The flower has always been a symbol of spring.  My neighbour offered Mrs TT a bunch from his garden this morning which supplemented the single sprig she had bought at the supermarket yesterday.  This afternoon was the French conversation class.  I spent four hours in meetings yesterday and my brain ached by the end of the day.  I shall be happy to speak only my native tongue with the English walking group tomorrow.
