We all Come from Somewhere...
Breakfast at 5am, in to Jen’s car at 6am, in the sky at 9am, checked in at Cassidy’s in Dublin at noon, lunch at KC Peaches and then it was time to explore!
After a bit of a wander through the grand campus of Trinity College, a failed attempt to ride the Viking Splash (booked up for the next decade!) and an inability to find any real tourist information (only tour stuff) I had the not so brilliant idea of us getting on the City tour bus to see some of the sights of the City. It was cold on the top deck of the open topped bus and so SLOW that by the time we reached the Guinness enclave we decided to ditch the bus and walk along the Liffey.
We’d chatted to a Canadian lady in KC Peaches and she had mentioned EPIC to us, the Irish Emigration Museum, so we followed the river to the amazing CHQ building, once a bonded warehouse and now home to EPIC and places to eat, places to work and places to shop. After very good cuppas and brownie in Insomnia, we descended the stairs into the old arched undercroft which houses the most creative, imaginative, thought provoking, informative galleries detailing the emigration of Irish people through history. I have to say that, for me, EPIC now ranks alongside the Gallipoli Exhibition in Wellington, NZ and the Mary Rose Museum in my very short list of Museums I have really enjoyed, and I get easily bored in museums! The use of digital technology and projection are fabulously employed. My blip is taken at the entrance to the Museum.
A couple of hours later we emerged in to Dublin’s rush hour and returned to KCP for more yummy food before completing our day in Gogarty’s Pub in Temple Bar, fulfilling my final wish for live Irish music and a Guinness!
Tomorrow the second part of our adventure!
