The Army has the best views
I managed to get up early this morning, and took the advantage a bright misty morning to shoot some photos on the way into work.
This is the view over the Pirbright Ranges, a Ministry of Defense restricted area on the Surrey / Hampshire borders. Much of the area is accessible to the public provided there is no Red Flag flying, and there are large warnings about not touching live shells which may be found.
However other parts are used for live firing exercises and training, and are permanently off limits. These areas cover 2000 hectares, and are made up of a mixture of lowland heathland, conifer and broad-leaved woodland, mire, scrub and acid grassland supporting a wide range of fauna and flora. The majority of the area is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and forms part of the European designated Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area.
The danger area is surrounded by a high Wire fence topped with barbed wire - the only way I could get this blip was with the camera on a monopod resting on top of the fence above my head. I could just about reach the shutter release and see what I was taking on the flip out screen (I just love that feature)
