Jet boat at Huka Falls
A rainy day.
We went down into Taupo, visited the i-site for advice on good local walks and rainy day activities. Then a quick visit to the Saturday morning market, between showers.
Back at the car, it was raining hard again, so we drove out to Lavaglass. After morning tea, despite the rain, we borrowed their brollies, and had a look around the glass sculptures in the garden (see 1st and 2nd extras). Then we watched a young glass blower producing some lovely vases (3rd extra).
Whilst at Lavaglass, I'd caught up on my emails, including one from blipper Nangee, who lives in Rotorua. She suggested visiting Aratiatia dam, which turned out to be close to our current location. The dam gates were due to be opened at 1400, so we drove up there, and it really was a spectacular sight. Extra 4 - before, extra 5 - after.
And finally, a visit to Huka Falls. Also spectacular. The folk in the jet boat must get quite wet, but also get a wonderful perspective. More conventional views in my final extras.
Now back at our apartment, washing on, supper cooking, gin in hand! Hoping for slightly better weather tomorrow.
