The Least of things
Another amazing day on the TX coast with the Band of Blippers. We started the morning at Los Vacas Muertas where we saw warblers, waders, ducks, hummingbirds and more. After a morning filled with the sounds of shutters clicking, the group split up with smaller groups heading out to various locations.
My little group ended up at Bolivar Flats where we had a most excellent afternoon. Big highlights were seeing my first ever Scissor-tailed flycatcher and Long-billed Curlew. But, I decided to go with a Least Tern because I just love watching these tiny terns. They are already paired up in readiness for the breeding season. After making a fly-by with his catch, this one landed and fed the treat to his mate on the beach (a little too far for clear photos, alas). They are wonderful subjects to practice panning on as they fly very fast but also fairly predictably.
We've already got plans for tomorrow which we hope will include more warblers, more hummingbirds and ....well, just more of everything. I have to say that this trip to Texas has exceeded all of my expectations in terms of the variety and abundance of wildlife.
Until tomorrow...
