FLAMBOROUGH HEAD LIGHTHOUSE
Welcome - open all this week this is the light of a wonderful lighthouse which stands alone on the peninsula.
This Flamborough Lighthouse is 206 years old, was designed by the architect Samuel Wyatt and built by John Matson of Bridlington at a cost of £8000.

The tower is 65 metres high and was fully automated in 1996. The light shines out to sea some 24 nautical miles, all from this one bulb.

Thankfully it was not foggy as the foghorn, next door, can be heard over 3 nautical miles away !
The oldest ever lighthouse, built in 1669, still stands some 500 metres away inland of Flamborough. Quite a collection for a small place.
