Stegelshof

On old maps from the 17th and 18th centuries, the name "An der Stiegel" appears at the place in the Anstelerbeek valley, where the Streythagerbeek flows into the Anstelerbeek. It was a swampy area of meadows and moored close to the village of Eygelshoven. Eygelshoven is located in an urbanized area, but the place has retained a village character, with its own Limburg dialect: the Egelzer shelf, which clearly distinguishes itself from the Kerkraads.

The name "Stiegel" refers to a wooden pole with a horizontally rotatable cross wood, which stood in the hedges that separated the meadows. People could go through this tourniquet, the cattle would not. The dots on the map grew into the larger farmhouse "An den Steegel". The farm had various destinations in the past. First it was a mixed farm with some cattle, farmlands, meadows and an orchard. Then, due to the rise of the mining industry, a large part of the arable land disappeared and on the remaining land a flower nursery and market garden were established.

In the nineties of the last century, the fifth generation, who owns the family goods since 1831, started to refurbish the largely dilapidated buildings. The new destination of the complex is a residential recreation function in various forms. "D'r Stiegel" is now located in a village, but because of the favorable location behind the church and a cul-de-sac, the Stegelshof has retained the romantic character of a bygone era.
