Who do you think you are?
"Come on the amazing journey
And learn all you should know."
Pete Townshend, The Who [Tommy]
It's been a busy few months and I've just emailed the feature package to the self-build magazine for publication, so it's time for a breather and some R and R - family history research at Ebbw Vale Archive. It's been several months since I've been able to devote any serious time to pulling together background information for the family story. There's always plenty of interesting information at the Archive anyway, so today I'm looking through old school logs and admission registers to find any traces of my maternal grandfather in Tredegar schools. There are gaps in the information of course, I'm talking about the late nineteenth century in an industrial town in a far flung corner of the galaxy - so in a sense I'm surprised there's anything to find. But it's an absorbing afternoon reading about life in nineteenth century industrial Wales. Quite different from my paternal grandfathers life in the pastoral Wye valley. I don't find my grandfather but as usual I came away with more questions than answers.
