Requiem For a Rodent
Shadow half-seen,
Could that have been...?
It moved so quickly!
Can fleeting blur
Be, as it were,
A friend of Mickey's?
Excited hound
Sniffs all around,
Supports our fears
Of twitching nose,
Greyish clothes,
And dish like ears.
We bear no grudge,
We merely judge
This floor is our floor.
And for demice,
A quick demise
Is what we hope for.
...And so we bait;
And sit and wait
On wire-sprung trap
To swish through air
And come to bear
On mousie's back.
Final mouthful,
Last mortal morsel,
Of Mozzarella.
For the only gal
With mice for pals
Is Cinderella.
RIP mouse
