Trip to Largs

We were up not too late, but were suffering some consequences of last night!

We had planned to drive to Largs today. We both have never been and we felt it was time to get out of town again.
We were a bit slow, but were finally on the road at 1 pm.

Neil missed a few junctions despite sat nav and we had a coupe of detours to get back on the right road. Then we met several traffic jams on the road to Largs. We were wondering if all Scotland had decided to drive to Largs today!!
We finally reached our destination after 2 hours travelling!

Sun was shining and the waterfront was busy. We walked up and then down again.
Largs is the home town of Nardinis ice cream.
The have their original Art Deco Style Ice cream Parlour here!
Decision was quickly made, that today is the day to try Nardini’s Ice Cream!
However, we first went to the end of the bay as we did not feel like queuing just now.
We looked a bit around and actually bought an ice cream at another artisan Ice cream maker, whose queue was a bit smaller. However, this was only in order to compare later!
With our ice cream in the hands we walked back down to find a coffee place in the sun. This being unsuccessful, we went into Nardini’s Cafe for a coffee, making sure we had the ice cream finished when we entered.
We only had a much needed coffee and then walked back to Robertson’s Clearance shop to browse the shoes.
I LOVE Robertson’s - there are 3 of those clearance shops in Scotland. One in Callander, one in Oban and one in Largs. The bargains are amazing and you get highest quality quirky shoes there for only a small part of the original price.
We ended buying 3 pairs of shoes. 2 for me and 1 for Neil.
Once we left the shop we walked further south along the sea toward the pencil and the marina. The pencil is a monument to remember a historical battle against the vikings. Funny enough both sides claim the victory!
The marina is huge - a lot of big and expensive yachts!
We walked all way back and dreamt of some tasty fish and chips when back in the centre.
We chose The Fish Works and were not disappointed! They even had gluten free batter!
We were sitting outside and watched the sun going down. Unfortunately not a spectacular sunset, but it was still nice.
Now it was getting chilly and we walked back to the car not without buying the final ice cream at Nardini’s ,where in the mean time the queues had almost ceased.
The Ice cream was fabulous!

We were home after 10 pm and shattered. We had walked some miles today and that slightly hung over.

Blipping the last ferry arrival in the evening. The ferry goes back and forth between Largs and Millport, Great Cumbrae, a small island just in front of Largs. Its just a 7 min ferry journey. Next time we may go over and rent a bike there. Today we were too late and too lazy.

Extras:
Nardini's of course. Tht is only the part of the quer outside! it continues inside for some stretch!
Cheesy landscape shot. The weather was too good for my photographic liking. Lacks the drama I prefer in my pictures. But I am not complaining!
