For years.......
.......as I headed out to the West Coast ,I would pass by St Conans Kirk in Lochawe ,and marvel at how there always seemed to be a service going on each time :-O
Until last year when ,having oodles of time to catch the ferry ,decided on a whim to have a look .
And am so glad I did ...and would urge you to allow a little extra time to have a look see too :-)
Designed by Walter Campbell ,incorporating just about every architectural style jumbled together that shouldn't work ,but somehow does and though is no rival to Versailles ,it is one of those places that resonates calm and peace ,and is a joy to be in :-)
And so many details are a delight ,the carved organ screen, the lead gutter spouts ,flying buttresses and my particular favourite this lovely carved wooden font with its rustic boat that says more than the gold leaf of Versailles ever could :-)
Go whilst it is still free , and like its near neighbour , Kilchurn Castle, unfettered by fridge magnet and tartan bag sales :-D
