Royal Mail fails to lose the Thing
But it was not our turn to win the lottery and in less than a week the Thing was back again. After a few hours circling around the package, we opened it. Some time later we read the letter (nice Mr Motorola had been unable to fix the fault so had fitted a new 'board' with new IMEI no., etc). In due course we inserted the SIM card and later still put it on to charge. Later still, a desultory glance en passant delivered the absolutely staggering hammer blow: the Thing was working. It looks like the battery will last a whole week from full charge?! Suddenly the ratio of working time (6 weeks) to unserviceable time (4 weeks) was increasing. Was this good news or bad? Was the Thing here to stay? Would we find ourselves compelled to try to use it again? Only time can tell. You can't really get excited by these things - there is so much more of interest in the world than working hard to integrate something into your life that you don't need (I never did have the time or will power to get beyond my first cigarette).
