River Brathay Sunrise

A few hours after the last image I was back at the same location to enjoy the sunrise.  Wonderful conditions, fog, then mist, then the sun lifted above the local fells to bathe the scene in early light.  I had great difficulty choosing just one.

Then a meet up with a fellow traveller to America back in 2015 and a 'small' walk!  In the end I bagged five Wainwrights as we climbed Crinkle Crags and Bowfell, before ticking of Esk Pike, Allen Crags and Rossett Pike before returning to Old Dungeon Ghyll.  We walked over 12 miles, ascent/descent of 1350 metres and I was absolutely knackered.  What started as a glorious day, albeit quite hazy changed as cloud rolled in from the Irish Sea, first covering the Scafell Range, before hiding the summit of Bowfell and the rest of our targets.  Hats off to Neil, his navigation skills were exemplary on fell side where visibility dropped to about 20 metres.

We plugged on finally descending via Angle Tarn to the Langdale Valley.  It was only as we lowered towards the valley floor that visibility improved and we could see sunshine bathing the area ahead.  We found out later that the cloud had been limited to the western areas and sunshine was ever present for most of the Lakes.

We finished off with a flat walk back to the car and then headed for a well earned rest, getting together for a meal with his wife later.
