Beckbury Monument

This stands on the edge of Beckbury Camp an Iron Age hill fort. The fort is believed to have been in use 2000 BC. It's in a good place and right on the edge of the escarpment.
 
The monument is on the Cotswold Way and seems to be a bit of mystery. It stands next a clump of trees know as Cromwell's Clump. The story has it that Thomas Cromwell stood here as Hailes Abbey below was destroyed and the stone chair was built to commerorate the event. Well it's a good story!
