"I see this every day" TT151

This small box - a "svepask" in Swedish - sits on our kitchen table and gets used every day. It's  made by bending a steamed wooden strip around a mould. The strip is then tied into place using root fibres and that is what the close-up shows. A base is added and then a top is made in the same fashion.
Most modern boxes and trays made with this technique are also glued, but the whole object can be made without glue, using root fibres and wooden plugs to hold everything together. 
This particular example (see extra) was bought in a charity shop for just a few kronor. It was grubby and pale but a good wash followed by much oiling gave it back its original beauty.
PS I've just found an English name for such a box - a bentwood box.
