This old house
Today I was in Inveraray for the AGM of the Glorious Gardens of Argyll & Bute marketing group, meeting as usual in the George Hotel.
This was originally two private houses built in 1770 when the Duke of Argyll was building a new town, Scotland's first example of a planned town. Apparently the Dook objected to the sight of the scruffy old town from his castle windows so had it knocked down and rebuilt where it is now. In 1860 the Clark family turned the two houses into a hotel, run today by the seventh generation of the same family!
It's a lovely old inn, and very popular, though it maintains a slightly run-down air with a complete mish-mash of furniture. We had soup and bread and spent a couple of hours discussing GGA&B business.
This is our usual corner!
