For Peace

Hiroshima by Bullet Train (Shinkansen) today.  Two excitingly emotionally stimulating things to do.  The train was super smooth and incredibly comfortable and you don't need to worry about which direction you want to travel because they turn all the seats around... Brilliant.

This shot is looking along the peace memorials in the Peace Park in Hiroshima.  The first is the arch under which all the names of those who have died but were alive at the time of the atomic bomb attack. You are looking through the arch at this end of the memorial pool to the Eternal Flame which will only be extinguished when there are no more nuclear weapons in the world.  You can't actually see the Children's Memorial , but in the distance you can see the Atomic Dome, which is the one building allowed to remain standing after the bomb was dropped.  It remains in the new city as a reminder to all.

The museum is excellent - we could have done with much longer in there.  The extra is a painting and part of a poem on one of the walls in the museum.

We all left there in a very subdued mood for a drive round the beautiful city the new Hiroshima has become, an interesting typically Hiroshima lunch of pancake, cabbage, bacon, squid, egg, noodles, soy sauce and green onions.  tfollowed by a trip to Miyajima Island to see the shrine and the Torii gate which at high tide seems to float on the water.  Unfortunately, it was low tide..

Then back to Kyoto on the bullet train eating dinner picked up at the station.  Shopping is always an interesting challenge.
