Pictland
Day Two of my visit to Perth and this morning I took the bus to Meigle to visit the museum with its excellent collection of sculptured stones, something that's been on my To-Do List for a while.
The stones date from a time when the area was populated by Pictish tribes (circa 7th - 9th century) and Christianity had also become established in the area. Pictish and Christian motifs exist side-by-side on some stones, like that pictured here, while on others one side of the stone has Christian symbols and the reverse / obverse has Pictish symbols or tales.
As with the Diaspora Tapestry yesterday, I was amazed at the handiwork and dexterity involved in the creation of these works of art.
