Through the hole... to freedom
Slightly unusual backblip for yesterday and on a tiny scale. Life is full of lots of rarely observed little dramas. The photo shows a minuscule midge (or gnat), viewed from behind while perched on the edge of a 20 mm wide hole in a stairwell window of frosted glass, perhaps awaiting a favourable air current before committing itself to its escape to the outdoors. I snatched the opportunity with my phone camera on maximum zoom as the tiny fly sat there for maybe 30 seconds as I was passing. I only had time for a single shot and luckily it was in reasonable focus. If you look closely, you can see the insect's banded antennae reflected in the shiny face of the broken glass on which it is standing.
This was a lucky midge - many hundreds die on this window ledge every year! A slightly odd topic but I hope you like it!
