A storm's coming...

"There are some things you learn best in calm, and some in storm."
Willa Cather, The Song of the Lark

As it merges with an Arctic jet stream, forecasters said Sandy has all the ingredients to transform into a "super storm" unlike anything seen over the eastern United States in decades.

Another meteorologist described Sandy in even more colorful terms: A blog post by AccuWeather's Senior Vice President Mike Smith quotes a Facebook post from a "very prominent and respected National Weather Service meteorologist," which reads: "I've never seen anything like this and I'm at a loss for expletives to describe what this storm could do."

Sandy

We're set and now we wait and hope for the best. We live nestled among towering pines and many trees still with leaves. Very scary business, these dancing trees.

Raspberry hates anything out of place so all the emergency items on the table had to be inspected and okayed. A relic from my 13th birthday sits front and center. A six transistor radio, a gift from Nora & Gordon, 50 years ago. That radio and it's earphone entertained by day and saw service through some extra frightening nights during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. It meant as much to me then as my iPhone now.

I imagine that transistor will get some use soon, the power goes out here at the drop of a hat and with the wind they're predicting I might even have to back blip. I had hoped to make it consecutively to 1000 but we shall see. This is #910. Wish us a 60 million other folks luck.

For the record,
This day came in with increasing wind, gray skies and a misty drizzle. The yard is swirling with falling and fallen leaves.
