Sunset over Dubai
Wednesday
Today was almost non-existent! We left Chicago last evening at about 8.40, and after a 13 hour flight, and losing 7 hours, we landed in Dubai, just as the sun was setting! Our plane was a Boeing 777-300ER and it was full. They fed us dinner - reasonable as far as airline fare goes - then I watched a movie, then tried, mostly unsuccessfully, to get some sleep. I suppose we must have gone through a short period of daylight, but as people kept their window blinds down, you weren’t really aware of it, and it just seemed like a really long night! They fed us “breakfast” a couple of hours before landing at sunset - so our bodies were well and truly confused! We had a smooth connection in Dubai, and were soon on another Boeing 777-300 on the final leg of our journey to Kuwait, about 4 hours, on which we were fed again! When we arrived in Kuwait, Laura had arranged for someone to meet us at the gate and guide us through the immigration/visa process, which we were glad of, since we were tired and the process wasn’t very self-explanatory. Arriving in the public area, Laura was there to greet us, and we took a taxi to her apartment. She showed us where things were, we discussed what we could do tomorrow while she was at school, gave us the number of her regular taxi driver, then went to bed - we were exhausted, and Laura had to be up about 5.15 in the morning!
