Bellac

Today was not the best of days. We left St Pardoux in rain and went to fill up with gas at a motorway service station. No sooner had we left the slip road than we were in stationary traffic. Then when we finally reached the service station we could not access the GPL. Back on the mway the traffic was stationary once more.

We left the mway and crossed to the opposite carriageway, where we were able to get gas. Then we drove to our chosen Aire at Saint something or other to find that it was a dirt car park and a very wet and muddy one at that. So we did a quick reschedule and turned back to Bellac. Eager to miss the traffic chaos on the A20 we had the SatNav find us another route, which took us uncomfortably close to Limoges.

Did I say that we had skipped breakfast with the intention of lunching out?

When we finally arrived in Bellac the Aire was almost full.... of cars! We squeezed in. Eager to eat, we dashed off to the nearby bar, which we knew served food all day. It was closed. So was everything else. We bought a sandwich from the supermarket when it opened again at 2:30. It was a terrible sandwich but we wolfed it down.

On the up side, it is a lovely location here by the river, with goats for company. Bellac itself is less thrilling than expected but does have some interesting bits here and there. I have a few photos but need a hookup to be able to do anything with them.

Tomorrow we go to the Notaire's office to see if we can progress the Compromis.

The photo is of the view from the church in Bellac.
