Retread required

This is a castor from a "vintage" tea trolley, probably from the 1930s.

We have only had it for a couple of years but the rubber "tyres" have started to disintegrate as you can see on this example.

The tyres are severely nibbled and transporting a cup of coffee for example, results in much slopping in the saucer from the speed wobble.
Having taken the four castors off after a bit of a struggle, I now need to retread the wheels.

The tyres are some sort of brittle, vulcanised rubber.

I have done some research online and rubber O rings, either complete or a cut length and glued to size, seem to be the way to go.

I also cleaned the wheels of all the grime and dirt that you can see.

Using a combination of a de-greaser and elbow grease, the chrome is now buffed to a glorious shine.
