Temple Basin Track

It's many years since I have skied at Temple Basin Ski Field, but we decided to walk up there today to see some spring conditions (ski season finished about four weeks ago). Skiers at Temple Basin have to be committed, as it is an hours walk from the car park to the huts and tows.

We had hoped to get a look at Mt Rolleston from there, but the mist and cloud came and went, and we never managed a good view.

But we did see the headwaters of the Bealey River, with avalanche debris, flowing off Mt Rolleston, at about 1600 metres. The rest ot the mountain, at 2200 metres, remained behind its shroud.
