Muzium Orang Asli

I spent the afternoon today taking a leisurely drive along the 'old' road from Kuala Lumpur uo to the Genting area. The drive took me through the Gombak district where I visited the Orang Asli museum. Orang Asli literally means 'original people'. The Orang Asli are the indigenous people and oldest inhabitants of Peninsular Malaysia, thought to have arrived between 2,500 and 1,500 BC. Officially there are 18 Orang Asli tribes, divided in 3 main group, all with varying languages and customs. The total population is about 130,000 distributed through Malaysia. I have been told that there are Orang Asli that has not yet seen Europeans, although this is not confirmed.

The photo depicts a typical Orang Asli wedding ceremony. Although interesting and informative, I found the museum somewhat disappointing in that it is quite limited. Much could have been done to make it more interesting.
