The Red Hut
This iconic, much photographed, shed at Rye Harbour in East Sussex was first recorded in 1904 in a photo. It is also known as Norton's Shed. It's original use is unknown but it has always been used by shrimp catchers. It is painted twice a year by the current Mr Norton.
Visited Rye today and had lunch at our favourite gallery /tea shop (Avocet Gallery) in Rye Harbour. A walk down to the sea, see extra, and then back to the old town of Rye for a browse in the galleries and antiques shops. We found a new walk which took us alongside the River Rother and through the boatyards and fishing huts.
Bought a lovely book in the Avocet gallery - The Shingle Shore - with beautiful photographs of Rye Harbour and the Nature Reserve.
