In the rain

A fairly bright morning as we wandered down to the harbour and then called in at the Smokehouse to buy kippers and salmon. But we knew the forecast was not good and sure enough it began to cloud over and spots of rain arrived. 

The rain, and the fact that some inefficient packing (done in a bit of a rush) meant that certain items of clothing had not been included, made a trip to M&S in Morpeth seem like a good idea. And we arrived to find that a Northumberland Gathering was in full swing, with lots of music and activities taking place around the town. Just a shame that the rain came to dampen spirits a little. 

We came across this group of ladies performing, with great skill and gusto, what seemed to be a mixture of clog dancing and sword dancing - someone might be able to name/explain this better. Whatever it was it was highly entertaining - and it was in the rain, as you can see by the little girl and her makeshift shelter. 

We were impressed with Morpeth and began to find out a little about its history. We need to return.
