Saxifraga 'Jenkinsiae'

A 'proper' alpine plant .... except it's a hybrid of cultivation rather than a wildling.  High alpines often form cushions of tightly packed foliage and produce disproportionately large flowers in profusion.  They often fail to do this in lowland gardens - if they consent to grow at all - so this hybrid, which has been cultivated for almost a hundred years, is quite special.  What's more, it's also fairly easy to grow, given a semi-shaded site and providing slugs do not mow off the flowers!
