This is my friend Virginia. In her 91st year she is still sparky, buys herself flowers every week, reads a book every 2/3 days and her hairdo puts mine to shame. The paintings on the wall are ones she did herself, the photo on the mantlepiece is of her mother.

I really enjoy making portraits of older people. It takes courage to face the everyday difficulties of ageing, especially in our society, which values youth so much. Still more courage to face them with a smile.
