In Monmouth: the Scaramouche in Pizza express x
On a halloween weekend, what an appropriate character to see on the wall of a restaurant. It struck me that if I was a halloween character I would like to be the Scaramouche. He is a dark individual, a black masked clown, who entertains his audience with "grimaces and affected language".
Scaramouche is one of the iconic characters in the Punch and Judy puppet shows (a performative art with roots in commedia dell'arte). In some scenarios, he is the owner of The Dog, another stock character. During performances, Punch frequently strikes Scaramouche, causing his head to come off his shoulders. Because of this, the term scaramouche has become associated with a class of puppets with extendable necks.
In this case, his name is inscribed into the looking glass of the restaurant, (as part of the Bohemian Rhapsody lyrics) . Perhaps reviling the darker scaramouche in all of the characters in the looking glass! x
