Winter wonderland

When we woke up this morning, everything was coated in about half an inch of ice. Roger got into work OK, and I think he was just in time, because not long after he called me to say he was safe at work, it started to snow again, and this time quite heavily and roads soon became terrible. They even had to close a section of I-75 (one of the main north-south interstates thru Cincinnati) for a while, as tractor trailers were getting stuck on the hill and blocking it. Hamilton County imposed a level 3 snow emergency for several hours, which means you're only supposed to go out in a car in an emergency. Some areas lost power as cables snapped under the weight of the ice, or trees were toppled by the ice and they fell onto cables. So far we've been lucky - we still have power. However, the danger isnt over yet, as one fear is that the wind may get up tomorrow and that will bring down more trees. The temperature isnt going above freezing until Sunday, so the ice will be there for a while. Schools were closed for the second day, which was probably greeted with mixed feelings - as our local school district is now up to 5 "snow" days, (they were closed for three days due to lack of power when the hurricane came through back in September) which means if they lose any more, they have to make them up at the end of the school year. It kept snowing until about noon, leaving us with a total over the two days of about nine inches, and within an hour the sun was beginning to peek through. So I put my boots on and wandered round the yard taking pictures, then shoveled the driveway - again!
