Old beech

I had to go up to Craiglockhart this morning for a spot of Latin and as I was walking up to the building from the bus stop I passed this fine old beech tree. It's surely old enough that people like Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Owen would have walked beneath it when they were being treated at the hospital.

I somehow doubt if they ever managed to "cure" Sassoon of the anti-war sentiments he developed during the conflict.
