Matisse..

Today we visited Maidstone Museum where there is a touring exhibition of the later drawings of Henri Matisse 1950-1954. Matisse was actually 80 years old in 1950 and so these pictures were even more incredible. As he was unable to paint he instructed his assistant to paint huge coloured sheets of paper and he then 'painted' by cutting coloured shapes with scissors-The Dancers, Blue Nude, The Mermaid and the Parakeet, The Snail .......!!
As it was the first day we had free admission and received a large poster of Blue Nude as we left .. What a treat!
