In the Name of Love

I have started both my freshmen and sophomore classes with a poetry unit. We talked about how all of their music is just poetry put to...well, music. I chose two U2 songs: “Pride (In the Name of Love); and “Sunday Bloody Sunday”. I chose “Pride” because of the Martin Luther King reference today, on the 50th anniversary of his death.

“Early morning, April 4,
shot rings out, on a Memphis sky.
They took your life,
They could not take your pride.”

Not all of them made the connection. Some did...good for them...others will later, i am hopeful. I shot this of them watching a video of it.
